Hi People, thanks for taking the time. My latest site is very important to me. It's work in progress of course (like any site) and I'm looking for initial impressions.

It's targeted at UK family users and I'd like to think that it would be considered a good homepage to choose.

It's intended to offer the average home user a quick and easy way to find what they want, safely.

A lot of the listing I am affiliated to but as I add more content many won't be. I am selective about what gets listed anyway and don't list for the sake of the commission.

The mix is intended to be around 60/40 in favor of affiliate links, the 40% simply being truly useful.

I'd really appreciate your impressions.

very nice site.in the directory insted of the small red icons try to put a directory icon.that will make the directory standout more from rest of the site.

I think its nice. The ads on the sides of the page just seem to float in the middle of nowhere. Seems like it would be more useful to tie them into the template somehow with more separation of the columns (vertical lines, etc.). The menu and the directory both are the same style, color. Possibly making your site navigation an little different.

Here is something to think about.

Personally I am a fan of the menu being on the left side not the right. (here is why)

(most) people read a book from left to right..
so when scanning over a layout the human eye starts at the top left and work it's way over and down, as if one was reading a page out of a book (once again just my thoughts)

A am a fan also of little or NO images used other then the logo, which in this case is something you did.

But in this case I think some sort of Icon set is much NEEDED..Look here:

perhaps get each topic it's own icon... making it look something like this directory:

Then, as they said above, the advertising needs to be seperated (somehow)

Remember who you are catering to, are they advanced in browsing the internet?

Are they going to know that that is above the logo is when clickong on your site?

I know it is the directory tree but that is becaouse i was looking for one to back track...

All in all it is a design that works, and will work just as it is, but IMHO it can use a bit of tweaking to make it PERFECT!
