just wondering which platform is better/prefered java or .NET??

.NET of course.
JSP will use 80% your memory resources if you have 100 domains enabled with JSP support.

Java/J2EE. But that is based upon our needs and our customers' needs. What are your needs? Both of these technologies have a similar basis - CLR vs. JVM.

BTW: If enabling JSPs takes up 80% of your resources, something is probably misconfigured. JSPs are compiled only once. The JVM is highly efficient at managing resources. What application server/servlet container are you using?
