Windows vs. Linux

We are currently on a linux server.
How to choose which OS is better?
Windows seems to be more expensive and less stable than Linux.
Not sure about speed or safety features. :talk:

windows servers can actually be cheaper than linux servers :) take ev1servers.net for example. though i think linux servers are more reliable than windows.

Linux servers have been known to be very reliable. Not very many exploits.

Look at microsoft. Its full of bugs. You will spend a lot of time patching your server.

I use Redhat linux for my server. I've never had a decent uptime on any box running windows except one that I forgot about in the corner of my room =X lol. I dont really see any use in using windows as a server unless you need asp support or mssql. Unix seems to be more stable.

Well umm i use Windows but on my other PC i use Linux Mandrake and also my host ATM uses linux also

windows usually costs more (when it comes to getting hosted on it) because the host has to worry about patching it up all the time.
