this much of hosting companies in next 5 years? - 05-07-2004, 08:23 AM

Do you think we will have this much of hosting companies in next 5 years? I think we will have only few companies because most people will have very high speed stable internet and everyone will host their site from home. Eventually hosting companies will be closed down like what happened to the Dialup internet companies.

There are at least 10 threads in multiple boards about this. If everyone could run their own server you would see more of it now. Like dial-up there will never be anything to wipe out the hosting industry. There were 10s of thousands of servers hit with Sasser viruses last week and this week. The average home user isn't ready to host their own site.

There will always be companies that will pay hosting companies because it is more cost effecitve than hiring someone to make sure their site is up 24x7.

A lot of people don't even want to wash their own car. I have a feeling tech-based web hosting is going to be left to companies who focus on it. ;)

Couldn't agree more. Web host survival is the coming years is going to be about differentiation and value-add services.

Definately. Maybe even more. As long as people still see Hosting as a get-rich quick scheme, we'll keep seeing more hosts.

Get rich quick? lol
I feel sorry for the people who start up a hosting company with that in mind.

Oh I agree. It's just the reason you see so many kiddie hosts with no knowledge of hosting, or business in general. And quite frankly, it's not only kids. I'm sure there are adults who fall into this category too. They buy a reseller account, sell at exorbitantly cheap prices thinking everything will be hunkydory and easy.

Mostly Reseller Plans Sucks,

Managing your own server is much difficult as it requires lots of maintaince.

so it would be better to move with companies like EV1, Managed.

As they would manage servers for you, and u can start u r hosting company.

That is good for companies who have some capital and if they are going to use that capital they most likely know that this business isn't easy money.
