Question MonsterHosting has multiple "mirror" names? - 04-12-2004, 05:09 PM

I'm curious what the strategy is behind Monster Hosting, maybe they can comment on this. They have 3 seperate websites setup that are advertised in the signature.

MonsterHosting.ca | MonstereCommerce.ca | MonsterDomains.ca

Now.... when you go to the hosting site look a the links at the bottom.
They operate about 10 different hosting companies under different LLC names all with the exact same template and content but a different colour and name.

http://www.hostinghosting.ca
http://www.edmonton-web-site-hosting.com/
http://www.cougarhosting.com/
http://www.oceansidehosting.com/

The list goes on....

What is going on here? I just don't understand the logic of having 5 fake companies when you're really just one?

There is 2 reasons that we currently have close to 50 sites pointing to MonsterHosting.ca.

The obvious is for Search Engine Optimization.

The not so obvious is a marketing plan for later this year where we will announce a new reseller plan.

Thanks for the response Gary.
It was curious why you have so many sites. So they aren't all actual LLC companies right? Also, you say it's for SEO which I can understand but why do you call them different names such as CougarHosting? Wouldnt you want to enforce your one brand, MonsterHosting?

They are all LLC's under our parent company.

Like I said the names are there for a reseller plan to be released later in the year. I don't want to provide to much info as we want to keep it a bit of a suprise.

We do spend 90% of our time marketing just MonsterHosting.ca and the other Monster sites.

I think the logic does make sense, or at least makes money. I have a friend in an unrelated industry (sold hair related products) and had 3 websites with exactly the same offerings. He put the prices at 3 different levels and each site sold the same thing. The most expensive one actually brought in the most sales too. Weird. But it was valuable market research.

I think the same can be said for this situation. The internet makes it very easy to test what is effective. Different offerings, different pricing packages, etc. and you can do them all at the same time.

Thanks for sharing Gary and everyone. So when you have more than one business offering similar services, do you put everything under one big umbrella company for billing or do you get a Paysystems account for each one for example?

I do understand the idea of marketing each to a demographic/region but setting up multiple ordering, support and billing systems has to be tough to keep track of!
