Web hosting company called me at home tonight, grrrr - 03-10-2004, 01:59 AM

I registered a domain not 2 days ago, and this design/hosting company called me at my home asking what I intend to do with the domain. He went on to say they have a database of all newly registered domain names, and when they see a really good one, they call and offer their services.

I told him I do design and hosting myself, and I find it very unprofessional that they would do such a thing, and I was going to post this at WHT and a few other forums.

So, I did.

The name of the company is aplus.net

freaking telemarketers. :kaioken:

On a side note to what Dan said the same applies for mailing lists and Fax lists.

I've heard about aplus.net calling people. I think its time to start turning them into the FCC and launch an investigation. Its time this company starts getting fines for disobeying the law.

Screw the telemarketing companies. Just because they employ a load of people, they should stay around? Illegal drugs employ loads of hard to employ people, should it stay around?

They are the scum of the earth, and their sales numbers are inflated so it looks like they are doing a service when they are not.

If I want something, I'LL find it, I do not need anyone calling my home trying to sell me anything, and I will never spend a dime on anything from someone who calls my home.

telemarketers are ALL bad. They prey on people so shy to say no. I was once a salesman, and I know how it goes.

Everyone knows about refinancing, everyone knows about charities, there is no need to call people at home and try to talk them in to buying something. Could you imagine Coca-Cola calling people at home at night asking them to buy Coke? They wouldn't, because they market the right way, then their product sells itself.

There is no place in this world for telemarketers.

They are not breaking any laws as of yet. They have the right to call your house.
I do not know when the list is in effect but if you are on a federal (or there list) at that time and they call. They can get in big trouble. But otherwise it is fair game.
They have broken the law I believe. The national do not call list kicked in I believe September or October 1, 2003.

No, but did you sign up for the list? I think you can still sign up.

I believe this shows a list of laws does it not? I would assume they would have to follow these guidelines in order to telemarket to non-customers.
