How do "expired" sites do it?

I thought how cool it would be to offer expired domain names. I am a webmaster and a graphics designer.

But how exactley do sites get the lists? Some of them use programs no doubt, then just copy and paste a few into their pages.. but what about the actual scripts for a page?

I am guessing there is no Domain Script that is free. Where exactley do you get them anyhow? Ive been lookin all over for one. Im not in a rush or anything, Im just wondering how all these sites make these huge mass lists, and what scripts they use to do it with.
