Would you go with a big host, just because they are big?

[Big == 5000 + Customers]

Think about this first:

1) Can they possibly have enought techs?
2) How long will you wait for support?
3) Will they treat you as a unique customer? or are you just a $$ figure?
4) Looks are deceiving {*Cough* HostRocket *Cough*)

I will add to this later. No, I'm not promoting myself, but my ratio of support to customers is 1:4, now i know host rocket if they really do have 10000 customers, I know that they dont have 2500 techs. <_<

Lemme know what ya think,
Josh

sbyweb,

I'll go for a small company myself, which I always did when I was a customer..they treat you as a unique customer and tend to all your needs..I've also tried big companies like Verio and interland..not very recommended..they don't even care if you actually exisit

Depends if i was a n00b to the whole hosting thing, if i was then i would go to a large host, because they have had more experience in dealing with early starters.

But if i knew what i was doing and know i wouldnt need much support then go for a smaller host because their price's would be cheaper.

Well thats my view;s on them, :p

I'd pick a smaller hosting company. However the risk there is that there's no guarantee that it will be there for a long time, whereas big companies are well known and expected to stick around.

I'd pick a small company, but i'd keep in mind to avoid offers too good to be true. And always, ALWAYS, contact some sales reps or support people via instant messenger before you buy. Talking to a real person can give you a lot of insight on how that particular company does its busines

I prefer smaller hosts that have good support. Such as www.micfo.com

I've done a mix, and I've enjoyed both. It all depends on how much the owner/techs are dedicated... for instance, Robert's VeroHost was reasonably large (or at least very well-known) and even though he was the only person he employed (besides his server monkey ;)) he was a great person to just talk to. He always had time to help out. Whereas my current host, for good reasons, doesn't have a lot of time, and likes to finish things quickly.

I've already had a few bad expirences with multiple hosts, small and large, I have found what in MY eyes is the best host hands down, and no amount of FREE or UNLIMITED or whatever hosting would ever get me to change.. They are a huge company, but not promoted like all these other hosts..
