Server Speed and Response Time

I have 3 question conseerning Server Speed and Responce time:

1) If server speed is fast does it mean that response time is fast too?
2) Does server overload have an influence on response time?
3) What factors are Server Speed and Responce Time depends of?

Here some answers:

1) Generally yes, but even if the server is fast, it could be on a bad/slow connection.
2) Yes, it does.
3) These depend on the hardware specs of the server (CPU, RAM, HDD type etc.) and also of the connection the server is on.

100% agree with Matrics on the 3 points.

I would only add something on 3, depends also how many sites are hosted on you server. This is mainly the problem of free hosting providers who place 800 sites on one server. Even if this is only personnal websites with only one page, just imagine how difficult it would be for the HD header if a visitor came simultanously on each sites at the same moment.... Then the response time may be critical even with a TOP equiped server.
