Alternative Traffic Building Techniques Outside of Search Engines?

What methods do you guys to build traffic outside of the standard search engine submission?

I generally do the following and it works reasonably well:
-Post links to my website on my favority forums in the advertising sections.
-Include website in forum sig or in WWW part of profile.
-Banner Exchanges
-Tell fellow webmasters about it.
-Visit similar sites to mine and affiliate with owner.

How about you guys/gals?

There are many other methods too

1. Signing guestbooks and leaving your URL
2. Writing good articles for high traffic sites and putting your link
3. Sending out press releases to your local newspaper office and magzine

All these methods donot require somebody elses link to be put up on your site ;)

Link exchanges ,Link farms(risky) ,Some sites have a top referring site list and you get free traffic if you send only a few visitors their way.
