Question Should I become a reseller - 05-29-2004, 08:57 PM

I'm a web designer who would like to host only my clients sites.
I want to manage directly disc space through ftp (not a resold control panel). My clients should only have access to a branded statistics panel.
All other information about site should indicate my company as the host including nameservers and name registration (if possible).
I DON'T WANT Online sign up or third party billing.
I just signed up for to be a reseller and in 4 hours of frustration with H-sphere reseller control panel not once did I see a ftp like interface or the address of my allocated space.
Are there any reseller programs for the likes of me.
Someone set me straight!
Darylick

:) Hi Darylick,
It sounds by what you're saying, you would like to control everything via SSH, however it will be hard to find a host that will give you this on a reseller account due to security reasons.

Have you tried WHM/Cpanel it is, if not the most popular reseller control panel then at least one of them. It is very simple to use and as a reseller you have total control over your accounts.

As for private nameservers, most hosts provide them now so that wont be an issue. If by name registration you mean whois information again if the host knows what they are doing then your clients will not find any information on your reseller provider through a standard whois lookup.

There isn't any Online sign up or third party billing incorporated with cpanel so you can use your own and when you create an account the interface shows you how much space and bandwidth your account has and what you have used and what is left to use.

Hope this helps.

Hi we can help you with this, let me first introduce a company I work for Interhost Uk http://interhostuk.net . We are part of a family group of hosting companys which has been around for over 9 years in total, with full automated access to enom and Nominet Uk.

I personaly use them as my host at home for my personal website, not just because I get it free but because its very fast and very reliable.

Best of all I know that they do know what they are talking about. What you have to watch out for is resellers with a dedicated server whom cram the servers full of resellers and this gradually slows the sites dowm. Most also decide to move on to other things and leave you hanging. We own all of our servers so any problem what's so ever we take care of in a fast and efficent way.

I would recommend the basic reseller package from the company I work for to start with as you can always upgrade, it includes cpanel/whm which is really good and very stable. Avoid Plesk , enism .

Hope this helps.
