Just Wondering..........
I think the real challenge is finding a reseller source (or server owner) that will not rip you off or starve you out, and take your customers after all of your hard work! Think about it! Why would they sell you "all that space" and only make $20 a month?????? I have been a reseller for a long time, and have been ripped off from day 1 take it from me....BUY YOUR OWN SERVERS

:) Hi wondering?
That is extremely unfortunate that you have been "ripped off" as you put it, however I think that this is a unique case, we have been in the web site service industry for over three years and have never heard of this type of thing happening.

Although we sympathize with you we find that in most cases if you go with a company that has been around for some time and has a good track record this will not happen, from your post :

It appears that you may have been signing up with hosting providers that were highly overselling there product, this should have raised suspicion in there company from the start.

I do agree that most people that get into the hosting industry should eventually have their own servers as this is ultimately what they should be striving to achieve from the start, by doing this it increases their control over what they can offer their clients and ultimately increases their profit margin, however as with many start up companies their budgets may not allow them to do this straight away, so that is where purchasing a reasonable sized Reseller account from a respected Hosting provider at a reasonable price becomes a necessity and if you check for the warning signs like, $20 a month for 10gbs space and 60 gbs of transfer, only been in business for 3 months and are claiming to have been around a lot longer etc. you should be quite safe in your purchase.

As with any business venture, you have to check out the person/company you are dealing with, of course. It is advised to send out a few emails to your prospective choices and get a feel for how they answer you as well. Not all Reseller/Hosting companies are out to "rip-you-off", and it is unfortunate you have been made to feel that way. There are MANY great companies that are not that way at all.

"Think about it! Why would they sell you "all that space" and only make $20 a month?????? "

Sounds like the words of someone who has not yet sold enough accounts to see the big picture. Folks, when it comes to offering shared web hosting services to end users, the servers / disk space is among the least of the cost worries. The real expenses are in the up-front marketing to get the sale and then the ongoing support of the customer, both of which are generally passed on the reseller.

So - big picture, chances are that host is making just as much profit on your single reseller account as they would if they just had your customers without you in the middle.

There's lot's of reasons folks like us work to build services for resellers, but to one day steal your customers from you isn't one of them :)
