Webmaster forums & resources site for sale - 09-11-2003, 12:41 PM

eDevCafe.com is a popular web development/marketing resource and community - nearly 800 articles, plus thousands of members and posts in the forums. Other features of eDevCafe include online quizzes, script generators, a hosting directory and a new web design templates store. Includes ecommerce and digital delivery systems, plus affiliate program.

FAQ

* How much are we asking for the site?
-----------------
- We are now considering all serious offers around the $14,950 mark.

* What do we base this price on ?
-----------------
The price is partly based on the amount of custom programming, design and SEO work that has gone into the site in recent months, along with the value of the current registered member base, plus current revenue and future revenue potential. I would like to point out that the base offer price is well under what has been spent on developing eDevCafe over the last year as we are wanting a rapid sale.

* Who creates the content on eDevCafe
-----------------
We have over 100 authors at the present time who contribute to eDevCafe. These articles aren't purchased, but we provide an author bio and author page to promote the contributor. All articles are provided to us under non-exclusive arrangements. Articles are submitted to us via our own canvassing, email or uploaded via an interface where the author can also update his/her profile. Our guidelines for submission are here:

http://forums.edevcafe.com/viewtopic.php?t=51052

Once an article is submitted, it doesn't automatically appear. It is screened and formatted for publishing via our CMS. Content is updated as time allows and the home page of eDevCafe cycles through established content daily when no new articles are available.

* Why have you decided to sell the site?
------------------
In all honesty, we don't really wish to sell the site, and I personally will be sad to see it go. We know that it's poised to really make an impact and become very profitable, but our other services have rapidly expanded and we are concerned with spreading ourselves too thin. Over the last couple of months we've seen steady improvements in the community, plus we've had a number of new moderators volunteer and join the team. In relation to articles and tutorials, we have a hundred items ready to be added. The new owners of eDevCafe will also gain these.

I'm well aware that during the boom days of site sales, the term "potential" was greatly abused, but in the case of eDevCafe it's a fitting term - it's all there, ready to go.

* What is your revenue?
--------------------

Applications such as the phpAdsNew ad server, the Web Links directory and hosting directory sponsorships systems have only recently been installed/completed. We had only just commenced with approaching advertisers when the decision to sell was made.

Gross revenue for August 2003 was $1600
Gross revenue for September 2003 was around the $700 mark
Gross revenue to October 2 2003 is approximately $1300

All the work has been in developing eDevCafe to the stage where partners could be approached and offered highly targeted advertising. Advertising rates were to be set initially on a case by case basis. There are just a couple of affiliate based offers being displayed now as test items. To see the features of our ad server, please view:

http://www.phpadsnew.com/one/

Currently we have over 65 separate advertising zones configured for eDC to deliver graphical creatives, plus the Web Links directory, eDC Special Offers (forum) and eDC Select (site section).

We have also implemented Google Adsense, so many of the zones have been decommissioned as such, but the code has been left in place to activate them again.

*How many unique visitors/pageviews a day do you serve?
------------------

Approximations for recent 6 day period, including a weekend which is a traditionally slower time on the site/forums.

Site (per day)

Total Page Views per day 2,923
Total Visitors per day 1,261

Forums (per day)

Page Views per day 1031
Visitors per day 271

Log analysis software used was WebLog Expert.

We are currently running Webalizer, but the configuration needs some attention - we can supply interested parties with raw server logs for analysis.

edevcafe.com and forums.edevcafe.com currently hold a Google PageRank of 6 and 6 respectively. As each month goes by we are also noticing a steady increase in sites linking back to us.

* How many "live" subscribers does your newsletter have?
--------------------

It will be at least the 4000 mark taking into account bounces and the removal of up to 1000 members as they are a part of our parent company, ThinkHost, client base.

* What software do you currently use to maintain your newsletter?
---------------------

The software is integrated into our CMS, once the newsletter is sent, it is automatically added to our archive.

Newsletter archive page can be viewed here:

http://www.edevcafe.com/news.php

The newsletter is sent out weekly in plain text format

* What other information can you provide about your membership?

For further demographic information, please view:

http://www.edevcafe.com/partner.php

* What type of expenses are associated with the running of eDevCafe?
* What comes with the purchase?
-----------------

At present, we have a couple of people working part-time to publish up content and oversee the forums. All of our moderators and Forum guides are volunteers, with one paid employee acting as Forum Admin 12 hours a week. Our Content Editor works a few hours a week on a casual contract basis. The Forum Admin also assists with promotion, locating special guests and newsletter development. I put a few hours a week into newsletter editing, posting and other tasks.

There are no associated software licensing fees as we have only utilized Open Source applications; and a great deal of coding has been carried out in-house. The only other real ongoing expense associated with eDevCafe is hosting. Currently, eDevCafe uses around 1.6 gig of hard drive space and approximately 9 gigabytes of bandwidth per month.

The acquirer of eDevCafe will obtain the domain name, the site as is and member lists (around 4000 members), all code and applications.

Further licensing details:

> The eDevCafe site and forums are based on phpBB, A GPL product

> For the members area software (used for premium templates), a single user license will be granted - transferrable on resale

> For the template affiliate software a single user license will be granted - transferrable on resale

> For the template software itself a single user license will be granted - transferrable on resale

The only other real ongoing expense associated with eDevCafe is hosting. Our hosting is currently provided by our parent company, ThinkHost.

* Will you provide further assistance to the new owners
--------------------

This can be negotiated as part of the terms and conditions of any offer a company may make.

* Can we inspect the inner workings of eDevCafe?
---------------------

Yes, if you are seriously interested in the purchase of eDevCafe, we will be more than happy to give you access to carry out inspections. An initial, non-binding offer in writing, plus a signed confidentiality agreement will be considered as being a serious intention to purchase and arrangements will be then be made for a company representative to have access.

If you would like further details, please don't hesitate in contacting me at mbloch@edevcafe.com.

Please excuse the bump.. I needed to update the sale information and also split the sites for sale into two threads due to post length. If you're wanting information on the other site (Domain name reseller software), please view this post:
