I'm about to begin writting PHP scripts for certain web applications. I've never done this before hence need a little direction in the software license area.
I've looked into the Open Source Software license and some other stuff but am not convinced that this is the license I want for my stuff. I want to allow people to download, use, further develop, change and re-distribute my scripts but I don't want them to be able to make money off them. I want my stuff to be free and remain free.
Can one go ahead and take the time to write their own license and have it a legally binding document? I mean really, if someone did take my script, call it their own and sell it to someone, the chances of my finding this out are pretty slim. I do want to have the lagal foot to stand on though if it did and I did find out. I also want the basics of other licenses that basically frees me from any responsibility once the script has been downloaded.
