Suggestion about the points system - 06-06-2004, 03:17 PM

Now, I know most users will flame me for suggesting this, but... here goes:

I think that the points system, as it is now, is kinda deficient. You earn too many points too easily. This way the balance between the available points and available services will be destroyed (a.k.a. INFLATION). I suggest either lowering the ammount pf points one can earn by posting/starting threads, or lowering the value of points.

As an example, I now have 15 posts and around 86 points. At the rate of .03$/point, I have 2.6 US$.

The worst scenario would be when users reach 2000 or so points (equivalent to 10$) and ask to sell their points. You cna figure what the result will be

I guess i would be flamed by the other members if i change anything.
Indeed, you are right on one point, we were too generous with points allocating.
Actually, as it is the beginning of this forum, i guess i can easily modify the points scheme.
As announced here: http://www.hostnode.com/showthread.php?p=280#post280, i modified the points scheme to reflect this thread.
I agree, this is a bit less than before, but you will be also able to get enough point to buy "Actions". And take as a bonus all the points you arleady "Easily" got ;).

Anyway, i am open to any suggestions about this scheme.

Wow, now you might lose a few members. It would have been ok to change it if there was more members active. But I personally thinky you have changed it too early in the game and there will be alot of quitters.

Yeah, that's better :). BTW, I think that you could also lower prices on "actions" (except advertising), so that no-one will complain he/she can't get enough points to do get a bold name or so. And we should also use this system (after it's well tuned and so) to exchange low-cost services, like on NamePros.

We are aware of what NamePros did.
I don't know really how their Points Scheme is established but for sure our is higher.
From what i heard, Namepro is only giving 1 point per post ;)

Let's run with this scheme point. I also don't want to see too many colors in username as on Namepro, only valuate members will have access to these feature.
Also, you have to remember than our Loyal members will automaticly receive a 20% discount on all Actions after 6 month of membership.

That's the way we choosed, let's see if it work.
It will be always possible to change the things if we were wrong.

Renshaw, there would have been more quitters later on. Also, this is also a good way to see who's in this for real and who just registered to earn points.

Operator, you have a very good point there.
BTW, NP uses a differentiated point giveout. For posts in the "Development forums", you get 2 points, for posts in the leisure forums you get 1 point, and for posts in the advertisements and contests forums you get 0 points.

That's a good idea....
I add it into the wish list.
Different rates into different forums, why not? It will motivate peoples to answer more on specific threads than spam the leisure forums with "cool" or "agree" or "well done" reply :D
Thanks for your interest Matrics, hopefully every communities have member like you.

Any idea, how i can fight spamming post to earn points?

With the HS Economy idea we would like to dynamize a forum in a different way than some other places, and above all, i would avoid to turn it into a spam can full of useless post.
Actually i am already thinking about a Fair Behavior Rule but i also don't like the idea to have too many rules there. I am not a policeman.
This is the beginning and if most of the post have their sense i already saw some useless ones... (Sorry buddies but what is this post about MAC?)

So, let's speak your imagination and post some suggestions, they are all welcome (and allow you to earn points ;) )
