Never played a SNES rpg but I doubt any could knock over ff7.

Trust me, I can think up some twisted things. I could rival those games plotwise. I just never wrote an RPG specifially.

Final Fantasy....Why couldn't Bill Gates have bought Square? Damn Sony.

SNES had a few kick ass RPGs. Do I HAVE to remind you of A Link to the Past, Secret of Mana?

How does one go about constructing a RPG?

How in depth do you go?
Like a treeline plot?

Don't forget Secret of Evermore, Final Fantasy 6 (3 US), Illusion of Gaia, Super Mario RPG, Earthbound (can't believe I forgot to list that in my first post... it's also one of my favorites), the Breath of Fire games, along with many other SNES rpgs...

Oh, and the ones that you can play only on the computer using emulation because the only english versions of those games are translated roms - in the real world there are only japanese versions (i.e. Seiken Densetsu 3, which is Secret of Mana 2, or Tales of Phantasia).

I will never look at an eel the same way again after watching "More Eels". If you don't know what I'm referring to, feel blessed you haven't.

I won't tell you what to make your RPG about, but I'll list some that I really liked and why to help you maybe a little:

Chrystallis (NES) - You could fight with one of four different swords (sword of wind, fire, water... cant remember last one) and it was very simple, you walk around waving your sword and fighting monsters, then bosses. Was a fairly long game and you could buy armor, sheilds, and items. There was even a city of Amazon which was nothing but women, and with one spell you could change into a woman and fool the people there into thinking that you were one of them. They won't talk to you if you're a man, lol.

Zelda - any of these games were good and I'm sure you know why. Zelda was the first great RPG with dungeons and again you can walk around waving your sword.

Final Fantasy - these were great up until 8 or 9 when you no longer were free to just roam around at a certain point in the game (usually when you get the airship), and the plot was too linear in the final ones. I like to explore in my RPGs.

Harvest Moon - it is every Japanese boy's dream to become a farmer. Wait, what?! A farmer? Anyway, these games were fun but very tedious, you have to water your crops and buy and sell cows and chicken and go to town, and you don't have that much time each day to get done what you need to, but it's all about making the cash with your faming skills. lol.

So in my opinion, the best RPGs are the ones that allow some freedom in the plot and different outcomes. Also your tasks should be simple but leveling up should be steady and rewarding. I hope this helps.

Well, it's a fan site and there are about a million FF fan sites out there. It's also been up for more than a year.

I am working on an ff12 site as well. Another fan site.
