Rightnow when domain names become avaliable there are over a hundred registrars competitng to reregister those domain names. Accredited registrars have direct connection the with the main rregistry and they send hundreds of thousands of requests durung the period when domains drop - 2:00PM - 2:30 PM EST.
Who's request will reach the registry first, secures the domain for which this request was sent. So, registrars sent millions of requests to register some 100 names. Then they auction these domain names. There is no way you can tell for sure if you will get the domain you are going for because you don't know what registrar will catch it. Some registrars are private - they work with companies and don't auction domains as all domains go to those companies. So if these private registrars catch the domain, you cannot get it even if you are ready to pay.
What WLS (waiting list service) does is it letst you to legally backorder a domain name and when it expires, it is granted to you.
And there is only one "slot" per domain with WLS? Sorry, I'm trying to get the basic idea of this too. It sounds like once a domain is backordered by one person, that domain is all tied up? Seems like some huge domain-buying entity would in that case tie up every usable domain that could possibly expire.

Exactly. Which is why I am against WLS. You have little chance to get a good domain now - but you will have NO chance under WLS.

Is that a known fact?
The 2:00PM - 2:30PM EST domain deletion time?

Hmm, what companies offer it?
Or it is not a public service?
