Newbie question about paired names - 02-08-2004, 12:34 PM

Hi

Would like to know whether there's any additional value by having the .net / .org / other domain extensions together i.e., do you get any premium for selling both mysite.com + mysite.net as against just mysite.com?

Also, which of these command a better premium - .net / .org / .info / .biz etc.?

Thanks

Hi,

I have been in domains biz for over 5 years now. When I started out, I used to register both .com and .net version of all domains.

At that time the registration fee used to be $35/year/domain.
It was way too much money to renew all those .net because we had 100s of domains.

I made a decision and dropped all the .net domains and kept renewing only .com ones.

Soon I found that many people had grabbed my .net domains when I dropped them. To my surprise, some of them contacted me to buy the .com to complement their .net purchase.

I ended up selling few good .COMs as those people didn't want to develop and market a site with .net alone and then send a good portion of that traffic to my .COM in free.

So if you are going to develop a site, only develop if you have .com .... or may be .info in some cases.

But if you are going to resell, try to stick with .COM.....or if .COM not available.......then .info

Just my 2 cents.

Thanks.

Rick Kumar
