Such a domain is clearly a trademark of the event organization. If they were to pursue you it would be open and shut!

Companies rarely take domain holders to court because a much simplified process has come into play called Uniform Dispute Resolution Policy (UDRP). Instead of filing a lawsuit, companies for at much cheaper cost will file a complaint at one of two approved arbitration organizations. The only relief these arbitrators can grant is transfer of the domain. There is no way to avoid their judgement because all ICANN registrars are bound to their ruling.
