UnitedHosting.co.uk Review - 04-17-2004, 10:02 PM

Hi all,

Ok...

Anyone who read my last thread in this forum knows that I've just cancelled my account with Dathorn because of
a) Downtime
b) Andrew's Temper

I posted a few pre-sales questions in the Pre-Sales forum at UnitedForums.co.uk and got a very fast response considering that they are currently doing a large server migration. Matt answered all my questions, but I contacted him in live support to get a bit of additional information and found him to be very professional and friendly.

I signed up on Thursday evening. I wasn't overly impressed with the order process. it had nowhere for me to select addon services, however I posted them in the comments field and was pleased to see that I had been charged for them and that they had been added to my account. I entered an incorrect email address on signup. One quick email to UH ensured I got the welcome email.

I woke up on Friday morning to find the welcome email in my inbox. It was easier to digest than most, and well layed out, and supplied all the information required to access my account and gave details on how to access and use everything. Although I did not need all the assistance given I was very happy to see that UH are not just setting themselves up for a living but are doing everything with the customer in mind.

I have transferred my business and personal sites to UH without much difficulty. I'm not a great fan of Ensim - but the control panel a host uses isn't going to change what I think of them unless it's a free one or none at all - however their custom skin does improve things quite alot. I couldn't find the cron feature in Ensim so I emailed UH about an hour ago with my request. This is not urgent and will not expect a resonse for 3-6 hours, considering the workload they currently have with the server migrations.

Obviously I cannot comment on network reliability, etc., yet as my domains only propogated a few hours ago, however the servers are located in DC2 at EV1servers.net, and my experience with other hosts that use EV1servers, as far as network reliability goes, has been superb.

I will keep you updated on a roughly weekly basis, unless anything major or interesting happens sooner than that.

Thanks
